We paid to get in early, but the host didn’t tell the cleaning person, so we had to wait outside about 10-15 mins. while she hurried to finish. While outside, we were right next to a bus stop where three men were drinking alcohol and having a loud party. When we got in we dropped our bags and left for an overnight to Normandy that turned into two overnights. When we finally returned, we noticed that the shower didn’t drain well and appeared to have flooded the breakfast area before; artwork was broken and just leaning against the wall; rug had lots of staining; a piece of the headboard that had been glued to the wall had fallen off; there were cobwebs and a spider in one window. Most concerning was that the flat looked like it had been converted from a shop front because the street-level entry wall was mostly frosted glass - did not feel secure and let in the street noise. We did not stay even one night; left and got a hotel.
The was a bit of a mixed bag with out stay. On the positive note, very centrally located, good storage, and good amount of space. The shower was a nice surprise as it wasn't clearly listed in the listing and it was nice and roomy. Easy access to multiple metro stations, walkable to the Louvre, Notre Dame, Latin Quarter, and, of course, in the Marais. Reasonable clean and supplied, but if you prefer "spotless" we didn't find it this way. The concerns we had were the unit is surrounded by businesses on all sides, and the door is directly on a moderately business sidewalk with a bus stop immediately in front of it. We didn't have any issues with the people, but it was a bit unnerving to have a group of men gathering most days and socializing at the bust stop while we were pushing the code and waiting for the lock to cycle. Each morning at 6:30, the grocer next door would roll there carts out from storage immediately against the bedroom walls. You could hear talking and the carts rolling and bumping through the wall easily and it was an alarm clock each day. The unit was quiet from after dinner until the carts started rolling in the morning. It also has a frosted glass front door. With the high foot traffic on the street, it's a bit unusual. The stairs to the second floor are not particularly safe. I slipped several times - minor and major slips - descending the steps. Thank goodness I was holding the hand rail. Descending is made more of an adventure due to the low clearance on the stairs. I am 1.8m - above average but not tall - and I had to duck my head. Definitely run by a corporation. We have stayed at AirBnB and Vrbo many times. I reach out to the host before arrival, and have always gotten a note back confirming our plans and welcoming us. Not here. I reached out to our "host" and didn't hear back. It seemed like each communication from Belvilla came from someone else. Again, fine if that's was you expect. But with vacation rentals, it has been nice to know you had an actual contact in case you had questions instead of a series of corporate functions.
